A healthy and Interesting Conversation with Akansh Malik

Reviewstation had a healthy conversation with debut author Akansh Malik for his book "Love Heals Everything"… Let's start with a fundamental question:
Q1. Tell us something about yourself?
Well, this is the hardest question for which I always struggle for words, but I googled myself this morning and here's what I found- Akansh Malik, an upcoming author, a young age entrepreneur & a humanitarian. Besides, I am one of those who work unprofessionally yet from the heart.

Q2. When did you start writing?
To be precise, I started writing at the age of 11. I use to rhyme, and when I was in class seventh my one of the poem on friendship was caught by my teacher who then appreciated me, that was a significant boost.
Q3. What does your writing process look?
Writing for me is not about perfect grammar or words that will let you hold dictionary. Writing for me is something that comes from the heart and instantly connects with another heart.
Q4. Have you always wanted to be a writer?
I was passionate about writing but was clueless to what to write, I had a one-sided crush story to start with, it was totally immature, but eagerness and support of my classmates are something I want to give credit for me being a writer.
Q4. Do you have any strange writing habit? Like thinking in the shower? :D
I am a big time daydreamer, and I use to write down words anywhere or you can say everywhere at any time of the day. I use to wake up at 2 in the morning to fetch my laptop and write.
Q5. "Love Heals Everything"… A love story Tell us something about it to our readers..?
Love for me is something that makes a perfect combination of Trust/Commitments, Care and Romance and so do my story was combined. In our generation, we quickly found ourselves in love. Besides, we never understand this feeling that is all "Love Heals Everything" tells about you all. It is a wonderful feeling that is slightly different.

Q6. What is a different thing in your book that will attract our readers to buy your book?
I won't say my story is something very different or extraordinary; it is a story of an ordinary guy, Aarush, and a simple girl Aarohi and I feel there are an Aarush and Aarohi in every boy and a girl respectively.  Aarush is a guy every girl dream of and so do a guy can relate about Aarohi.
Q7. How was it working with Petals Publisher?
It is going well with Petals Publishers. I found Mr. Harpreet and Mr. Vinit very supportive throughout the journey, they guided me as a Mentor, and I am very much thankful to them. Besides I would like to thank Mr. Suhail Mathur who as a literary agent has chosen the best publisher for me..

Q8. How important is the characterization of the book? How had you chosen the names and character of your book? Which is your favorite character?
For me it's not a story that completes a book, the story is just a vacant plot that characters fill with their emotions and belief to make it a home.
Since I started writing, I always use the name "Aarush" as the name is similar to my name and it helps me to live in the character. "Aarohi" is the name that brings a smile on my face. (There is no one in my life, namely, "Aarohi")
Though each and every character plays a vital role, Men in me will always want to date a girl like Aarohi, so I would say Aarohi is my favorite character.
Q9. Tell us some of the interesting facts associated with your book?
One fact I don't how interesting is this, is the book to get selected with three major publishers of Industry. One of them was the one with whom I always wanted to get published, but then sometimes your terms or terms kept by publishers are not viable.
Q10. Do you read books? Tell us from your reading list what book you wished you could have written?
Yes, I do read books, and I wish I could have written "Love, Life and Dream On" By Mr. Animesh Verma. That was the first book on my shelf.

Q11. Any source of inspiration?

My friends inspire me a lot, I need to take care of first 2-3 chapters that I would send it to them, and the rest of the book will be completed only by a compel by them. Isha Bhatia, Priyanka Di, thanks for forcing me to complete "Love Heals Everything."
Q12. What marketing strategies you are undertaking for promoting your book?
As such there are no marketing strategies. I believe in my work, and people trust me more than me. Though there is only one thing in my mind that it reaches million hearts, it might be either way they purchase the book or someone's gift them or they hear the story by some of their friends. I would request my friends or anyone who is going to read this story to recommend it to at least 3 of their friends.
Q13. Will you read reviews of your book? How will you consider negative reviews?
Personally, I hate the rating system or reviews that divided into story line- 4 stars, Cover- 5 stars, and overall-4.5. I believe a review is something your heart speaks in one shot to your mind when you finish a story. As I said earlier, I am the most unprofessional person, so I like unprofessional things more. Talking about negative reviews, I would admire those reviews as they will help me to bring a better writer in me. I would work on my weaknesses.
Q14. Apart from love genre which other genre is your favorite to write a book?
It is totally a different genre. I like to write motivational things that will keep motivating others, as well as me.
Q15. How will you rate yourself as a writer?
As a writer, I stand nowhere; there are a lot of things to learn. But I consider myself as good story-teller. While writing a story I think from my heart, that thought has directed the mind to come up with words, and my mind redirects that to my heart that would feel the same and approve me to move.
Q16. Any future projects?
Yes, I am working on a real life story.

Q17.  How did you get the idea of your book? Any research conducted for the book?
I started writing my story, but then there was nothing much in my life, and I lost myself totally in my dreams and completed this story.
It was like, yeh agar yha hote to kya hota, yeh agar milenge to kese. I raise a question at night and next day in the morning I would come up with an answer… It was a pleasant experience it helped to explore inner me; that is entirely different to what I am.
The only research I did was to know about location and distance.

Q18. What does your family think of your writing?
My family always supported me. Though sometimes my mother would get angry at me for my late routines.
Q19. Do you learn anything while writing your book?
Yes, I learned a lot. I found a side of me that I was totally unaware.
Q20. What message would you like to share with aspiring writers?
For Aspiring writers I would say just write from your heart, don't care much about the language, it is second priority. The priority should be your heart should speak.

Interesting Interview With Avantika Debnath: Author OF "The Bridal Pyre"

9/21/2015

Picture
Reviewstation had an Interesting Conversation with Avantika Debnath Whose debut novel “The Bridal Pyre” is released based on social Issue. Let’s know more about her from Avantika only…. Q1. Tell us something about yourself?

Apparently there is nothing worth telling about me, that is why I tell stories about other people. However my resume read I work for this big MNC in HR and Recruitment. I have a MBA preceded by an Honors Degree in English. That is all.

Q2. When did you start writing?

I remember scribbling a poem about this doll dad had bought for me on my birthday. I was in class 2 I guess. That is the farthest I can recall.

Q3. These days people chose to write Love stories as their debut novel, why did you choose such a Heavy genre as your Debut Novel?

Why something as heavy as a Feminist Social Drama- well, I believe that the story that I have narrated through The Bridal Pyre – NainamDahatiPawakah really needs to be told and heard. Every incident of this story is a real life experience of someone’s life. Together they make a fiction, but these incidents have happened to someone, very much in our society, very much in our generation, sadly it is. And it should not be repeated with anyone else. So I chose to write it now.

Q4. Tell us about your book “The Bridal Pyre”?

The Bridal Pyre – NainamDahatiPawakah revolves around the protagonist Meera. She is as regular as you and me and so was her life till she got married. And then she did what every other woman tries to do, adjust to adversaries. But she realized after a point that you can’t expect to stay indifferent to the disturbances caused by life. Nothing falls into places till you get up and work on the chaos. The story then unmasks the face of the society we breathe in, the collective prejudice of every agency of judgement that tries to put down a woman looking for justice. This woman had initially put up a fight against those handful people who had wronged her, but before she realizes, she finds herself in a war field against politics, police, judiciary, corruption, media, you name it, she fought it. Undauntedly. The plot is based on real challenges of real women, no high end drama.

Q5. These days Women are treated as a show piece by husbands. Do you think your book will help those women to fight for their rights?

The character of Meera will certainly provide as an example and encourage the modern Indian woman to fight back. But to fight back you will have to come out of your comfort zone. Meera did that. If at least one woman sums up the guts to fight back the torments out on her after reading The Bridal Pyre, I will consider my efforts successful.

Q6. How was your experience working with Omji Publishing House?

They are very decent people. As a first time novelist, there were a lot of things I was clueless about. They have widened my knowledge in the area of book writing.

Q7. Who is your source of Inspiration?

Ordinary women with their ordinary life and extraordinary zeal and courage are my inspiration.

Q8. Apart from writing what are your hobbies?

Ummm, I don’t really have any other hobby. I consider myself as a dancer at soul, but dancing is not my hobby. It is my devotion. It you would ask me how I spend my leisure time, I would shamelessly admit, I can spend an entire lazy Sunday watching Russell Peters in YouTube.

Q9. What is your biggest strength of your writing?

I write from my heart, things that appeal to my emotions. When I write I send my mind on a casual leave.

Q10. Since it is a book on social issue common these days what research have you done while writing this book?

I didn’t have to do much research to write this book. I already had ideas and material with me, from the women I had come in touch with throughout  my life. In fact I had so much information already at my disposal that I was compelled to pile them up in a book.

Q11. Tell us any challenges you faced while publishing your first book?

Oh..like any other first timer… rejections from publishers… someone asked me to change the climax… someone said this won’t work… people are all around you to discourage you.

Q12. If you get a chance to go back and change something in your novel or getting it published what would you change?

I wouldn’t change anything, or may be a few sentences here and there. But that will be for the literary benefit of the book. I won’t change anything in the flow of the story.

Q13. What was your favorite part or chapter in the book to write and why?

There are a couple of them. But the most difficult yet favorite scene that I wrote was Meera’s miscarriage in The Bridal Pyre – NainamDahatiPawah. More, so because the amount of emotional turmoil this character goes through along with the physical pain. This was my first work as a novelist, I am not sure if I could do justice to the situation. But I was writing this scene, and I had to stop for a while, cry, get myself a cup of coffee, and go back to completing the scene.

Q14. Any Future Projects you are working?

I do intend to write a collection of 4-5 love stories sometime. In fact that is what I had started my book writing with, but there was this dying need to pen down The Bridal Pyre – NainamDahatiPawakah first. But I will go back and complete my compilation of love stories.

Q15. Do you read books? Who are your favorite Authors?

There are so many. I am a big fan of Ashapoorna Debi. She was a great writer and used to write in Bengali. I really wish I could be like her someday. Again, every Bengali has this inbuilt undying love of Rabindranath Tagore, and I am not any different.I also like Paulo Coelho (but of course) and Eric Segal. But these days I am reading Khaled Hosseini and loving him more with every sentence I read.

Q16. Describe yourself in two lines. How will you rate yourself as an Author?

I can describe myself in one word – CRAZY. That’s what I am. I still don’t consider myself as an ‘Author’. ‘Author’ s a big and heavy word. This label comes with a lot of responsibilities towards the society. I am not worth of this title as yet.

Q17. What are things a writer had to remember while writing a debut book?

I can’t talk for others. But I made sure that I was standing firm on the idea or the moral that I intended to convey. If I appear confused, I won’t be able to convince people to buy my logic.

Q18. What message would you like to tell to our readers?

The message I want to give through this book or otherwise is for all those associated with the judicial and legislative departments in this country. You are seated there to make things easy for us, please do not complicate the process of justice for the ordinary people. We knock at your door for justice, please be a little more sincere towards your duties.

And I would want to tell all husbands and in-laws that when you bring a girl from a different house in your home, try to treat her the way you would want your daughters to be treated.

Thanks Avantika. It was nice talking to you……

A nice and Interesting Conversation with Pushpendu Mondal

8/16/2015

Picture
Reviewstation had an awesome conversation with Pushpendu Mondal Author of two books “True Love Desire” And “Spilling Down the Wine Glass”. Let us know about him…

Q1. Let us start with basic question, tell us something about yourself?

Ans. Well, I’m a person who loves to live a slightly off-track life. Two reasons for it are: confusion and ignorance. I have always remained confused about the choices I make. Also, I mostly ignore the interference of my parents before locking myself over a choice! It was when we moved to Agra from Kolkata, I carried my schooling with a mindset of becoming a doctor. However, when the time arrived, I switched myself on for engineering. That’s where the clashes between me and my parents started, which increased, when I decided to be a writer in my second year. But I, once again, went on with my choice alongwith my bachelors. Luckily, I managed both and presently, I’m working as an engineer in a Tata Group Company. Of course, now my parents are at peace!

Q2. What motivated you to start writing?

Ans. Real life incidents and experiences had driven me into writing, and it still does. There is always a section or some incidents in my books, which for me, are too inspiring to ignore that I have to weave the plotline around it!

Some years back, I visited a small hill station near Siliguri. There was this girl teaching in a convent school. She appeared completely different in comparison with rest of the North-Eastern teachers. On querying about her, I was told, that she was from Nagpur. And had been there since her fiancé went missing during the 26/11 attacks. He went to Mumbai for a work interview and had never come back. She still waits in the very town she met him for the first time! Though the words were difficult to digest, but were inspiring enough to base my first book True Love Desire around them.

Similarly, the section which had Arjun and Diya in spilling Down the Wine Glass had been woven around the 1989 Bhagalpur riots.

Q3. You are an Author of two published books. Tell us something about your books?

Ans. If you frame my books in two parts: a body and a soul, then True Love Desire had been given romance as genre for both its soul and body. It is the story about Vikrant, who comes all the way from London in search of true love, meets Veronica, fall in love and tries to give his love story a desired end. Of course, the events are dominated with the real incidents I mentioned earlier!

Whereas, Spilling Down the Wine Glass had remained a completely different book right from the time I was trying to understand it in my mind. The core soul is once again revolves around the genre romance, while the body is structured with a packed thriller and greedy politics. The story oscillates about three characters, Revathi- a politician’s daughter, Siddharth- a young politician ready to cross anyone, and Arjun- an army soldier lamenting over his lost love. Interestingly, all three lives are somewhat intertwined even the characters being in different places and of different time. This helps them to pull up an excellent conclusion for the book!

Q4. Both your books are of different genre. Why sudden shift in the genre?

Ans. While writing True Love Desire, I contemplated a fact that pure love stories are unidirectional. There is a boy, a girl. They meet each other and somehow fall in love. Some tragedy follows and either they end up together or get separated. Now, what important here is the uniqueness of the tragedy. This uniqueness generates the likeability of the reader for the book. And to create this unique tragedy is honestly quite challenging and risky.

However, thrillers provide multi-dynamic space to experiment with the plotline and the characters. It is like creating a web of unmatched thrills, putting your characters in adrenaline pump circumstances and then serving readers what they were least expecting. Plus, I’m in awe of grey characters more, which looks more fascinating under thriller genre! Also, if the story has a romantic core and a thrilling contour, I guess the purpose is served for both the author and the readers.

Q5. How will you rate Pushpendu as an Author?

Ans. Honestly as an author, I’m still learning and growing. Also, I had neither analyzed myself nor had written enough to offer myself a rating. Whenever I finish a book, I take a sabbatical. This is to distance myself from the writing style, plot, characters and every other minor element that I had already taken care while completing the previous work. In short, every time I resume writing, either I’m a better writer than yesterday or once again an aspiring author. In other words, I feel like an Author in Making and I love it!

Q6. According to you, what mistakes new writer makes while choosing the concept of the book?

Ans. Three years back, when I started writing, I took campus love story as a base for my first book. I wrote around three chapters of it and then dropped the idea thinking that there were already too many books, having similar concepts, crowding the market. Hence, I went onto write True Love Desire which was supposed to be my second book. This gave me an opportunity to come out of my groove and try something unusual.

Believe me. New writers (young) had the courage to come out of their shell and write something that is not in their comfort zone. But they mostly go ahead with the herd which believes on the success of few already well-established authors. I myself had been the victim of the same during the start of the journey. But I restrained myself after understanding the market scenario which has changed drastically. Now, publishers are commissioning authors having better script and quality marketing strategy. Readers had turned choosy too. Therefore, new writers had to show an extreme thirst and hunger in every domain of book publishing to make an impact; otherwise the effort would be killed!

Q7. Both your Titles of the book are captivating. How did you choose your title?

Ans. I generally lock on a title based on the market segment the book had been targeted to. Also, a title which doesn’t giveaway the exact feel of the book, interests me. With True Love Desire, the title was chosen first and then the story was created to justify the title. It happened exactly opposite with Spilling Down the Wine Glass. The book was written first in this case and a suitable title was chosen latter. Amazingly, even after locking the titles in both cases, I remained uncertain until the books were printed. Choosing a title, for me, is like jumbling few words keeping the plot in mind. With correct combination, the title gets ready.

Q8. Tell us some of the good memories associated while writing your book?

Ans. When I was putting together the climax for Spilling Down the Wine Glass, Hachette India Publishers in association with DNA Newspaper announced a nationwide contest called, DNA Hunt for the Next Bestseller. I was in dilemma whether to send the book or not. But considering it as a never-again-opportunity, I submitted my entry. Three months later, I was informed, out of 300 entries received; my book was shortlisted by the editorial board. I was surprised to see myself sharing a space with some big names in the Top 20 shortlisted authors. The contest re-energized me to believe on the potential of the book. It was really something special!

Q9. Tell your association with both your publishers..?

Ans. Let’s put it in this way. An author has commitments with one publisher, whereas a publisher has commitments with many authors. Hence, a publisher cannot support his every single author with full force. An author has to extract as much support as he can from his publisher. Although, in many cases an author has to work alone to increase his book’s reach; somewhere a publisher is cornered too (revenue). Overall, it is a fair game, with publishers having a slightly more advantage, as they have options in the form of books from different authors.

Coming to my experience, I can only say that with every subsequent publisher, my association is getting better.

Q10. As a writer what research have you done while writing your Second book as it is based on politics?

Ans. For me, research is probability. When I’m about to write behavioral traits of my characters or a particular scenario which seemed unrealistic, I do research. It provides necessary arguments, a possibility, and a hint of whether the circumstances can happen in future or had happened in the past. If the research parameters work, I move ahead with my creation. Most of the research work, I do from books. Reading published work on politics gave me a better insight about the topic, thus, assisted me to pull off Spilling Down the Wine Glass in a better way.

Q11. Tell us your Future Projects?

Ans. Currently, I’m working on a romance-financial-thriller which, hopefully, will involve multiple grey characters, quenching their greed, in a quite brutal manner.

Q12. Do you read books? Who is your favorite Author?

Ans. I have always believed in the concept of, If you read well. You write well. In fact, I dedicate majority of my time in reading books even when I’m on writing mode. JK Rowling- for her Cormoran Strike series, Novoneel Chakraborty- for How About A Sin Tonight?, Dan Brown- for The Da Vinci Code and Sharanindu Bandyopadhyay- for Byomkesh Bakshi series, are some my favorites!

Q13.  Apart from writing what are your hobbies?

Ans. When I’m not writing, travelling remains on the priority list, followed my cooking and watching left over movies.

Q14.What is your biggest strength and weakness while writing a book?

Ans. Biggest Strength: I hardly run out of ideas. Even when I’m into my current book, the concept of next book appears transparent. Biggest Weakness: In thrillers, revealing right thing at right moment is necessary. It drains me completely to figure out the above pattern.

Q15. What message would you like to tell to your readers?

Ans. When I was growing up, I heard this line, If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space, everything after which just transformed. I started taking untoward risks. I began living on my choices. I enjoyed following my dreams. My message to my younger readers, precisely, is: Never ever, even for a second, give up on your dreams and choices. Life is already too complex. Let it do its work, you do yours. Keep things around you simple. And remember this bitter truth; nobody loves you more than you love yourself. Trust me. Take care!

A healthy Conversation with Gaurav Sharma

Picture
Love@Air Force and Rapescars two books with different genre by a Mathematics teacher is commendable. Reviewstation had a proud privilege to take his Interview… Q1. Tell us something about yourself?

A- I am a freelance devotee of mathematics, serving it in my academy named as INFINITY ACADEMICS.

I live in Ghaziabad with my wife Swati and two kids Arnav and Akshika.

Q2. How a Mathematics Teacher turned into a writer?

A- Writing is a hobby since childhood. I wrote my first poem when I was eight. My father used to give me two lines and would ask to add rhymes. Enigmas of life didn't allow me to pursue it, however I didn't let the spark die. Lately dream of being a published author has come true.

Q3. Love@Air force is a Love story and Rapescars is about rape victims. Two different genres. How did you get the Idea and why sudden Transaction?

A-  My intro as a writer always has one line that I yearn to create a stir as a storyteller. Some great author has said that genres are just clothes and the soul of literature is life. Same goes with me. I write about issues that trouble me without binding myself to any genre.

Q4. Tell us something about both your books?

A- If you kindly allow me to make a correction; LOVE @ AIR FORCE is not just a love story. The unrequited love story of Shabd Mishra is just a prop to showcase the rank discrimination prevailing in the armed forces.

The issue of rapes troubles me as a father of a daughter, as a brother and as a husband. I, like many others, have a problem with the rape laws in our country. Imprisonment is no punishment for the crime of rape. It absolves the rapist of his crime, but the victim has to live with the trauma. A rapist doesn't rape a girl alone. He rapes her entire family. Living in jail away from the society without having to worry about earning only helps a rapist. RAPESCARS... is my voice against it.

Q5. How can we control rape in the society?

I think more stringent laws and speedy trial can be helpful. Presently, the law is more for the rapists than it is for the victim.

Q6. What is the source of inspiration?

A- One word is suffice-Life.

Q7. Do you read books. Who is your favorite Author?

A- Yes, I do read books. R.K. Narayanan, Vikram Seth, Sophie Kinsella, Jeffrey Archer, Susan Hill and many more. Among contemporary writers, my favorite is Nandita Bose. Nobody  translates emotions into words better than her.

Q8.  What are the memories associated with both your books?

A- Writing  these two books was a great learning experience. I was naive when I started writing LOVE @ AIR FORCE. I paid for getting the story assessed and the assessment report really helped me. After that I was desperate to get it published.I would ping the publisher after a week and annoyed him. I acted in a more matured manner during the publication of RAPESCARS...I guess. Still learning and best of me is still to come, I hope.

Q9. What does writing mean to you?

A- Writing satiates my soul. I maintain that when somebody has a lot to say but people don't lend their ears to listen to him, he becomes a writer. It's the subtlest way to bring to bring out your thoughts. Writing completes me.

Q10. How does it feel to be a published Author?

A- As I said writing completes me. My life would have been meaningless if I would not be a published author. God bless my Publishers.

Q11. Tell us your experience working with two different publishers?

A- The best thing about both of my publishers was that both the CEOs, Rohit Jadon of Blackbuck Publication and Harpreet Makkar of Petals Publishers are published authors. They understand the brain of a writer and what a book means to his creator. Both of them are very dedicated and enthusiastic about their work. A heartfelt gratitude and best wishes to them.

Q12. Many books are made on Social issues. Do you think writing can help us solve such issues?

A- Certainly, writing can surely help with such issues. In schools, we teach through books, then why can't we learn the lessons of life. However, I feel, writers ought to be responsible for making this happen.

Q13. Do you receive any negative reviews for your books?

A- Yes, in fact many. I do read them more number of times than I read the positive ones. They are more helpful in improving yourself. If the criticism is about writing style and language, I take them in right earnest. Anything about story gives you an insight into the reader's mind and I take it as an individual opinion. As a  writer, I don't  repent writing something.

Q14. Beside writing what are your hobbies?

I used to play cricket in my school and college days. I wield a brush sometimes. Presently, teaching, reading and writing consume all my time. I love long drives.

Q15. What message you would like to say to the readers?

A- A writer wants to get published only for readers. Readership is like a treasure to a writer. It's the love of my readers that motivates me to keep going. If they love to read me, my duty is to delight them. With all humility, I extend my gratitude to all my readers. Thank you.

Reviewstation had an awesome time talking to Ratnadip Acharya and his Journey as an Author. Let us throw some light on his journey…

Q1. Firstly, tell us something about yourself and your background?

Answer: I am a very contented loner who spends long hours all alone either reading books, watching nature & sometimes drinking whisky. I have a five-year-old son and a doting wife. My son demands a lot of time of mine. He loves my narrating him comics’ stories in an exaggerated way. By profession I am an Electrical Engineer. However, my technical background and literary activity peacefully coexist.

Q2. When did you start Writing?

Answer: I started writing when I was 25 years of age (Now I am 39). For the first 8 years my manuscripts had faced no less than 150 bitter rejections. You name any Indian publisher and I would assure you that it had rejected my work. At 33, somewhat disheartened, I had thought of quitting writing as I thought destiny had another plan for me, but then one day I got a mail to submit a story for Chicken Soup For the Soul. Since then I contributed numerous write ups to Chicken soup stories. It was followed by my first novel from Sristhi which got published effortlessly and now another novel.

Q3. So you are a magician and now a writer? Tell us about both your profession journey and which you enjoyed more?

Answer: I enjoy performing Magic as well as writing. Both these things offer joy in different ways. You see, once you perform magic you can witness astonishment on the spectators’ face right away. It is so rewarding. But as an author you start getting compliments at least a month or so after your book reaches readers.

Q4. “Life is Always Aimless… Unless you love it” and “Paradise Lost & Regained” Both books are of different Genre. Tell us something about your books”

Answer: ‘Life is always aimless…’ is somewhat like autobiographical with a dash of imagination. I would not call it a real stuff with lots of literary merit. It was rather a mundane but honest and candid story. But with ‘Paradise Lost &Regained’, I think, I have reached a new height. I cannot vouch for its commercial success or it is too early to comment upon it, but I do not think in last few decades of Indian literature anyone had worked on such an unusual and original idea.

Q5. I have read both the books and have found Paradise Lost & Regained totally a different type of book. What research have you done for the book?

Answer: Probably you know the word ‘Research’ means you are repeating a search. It simply means a research work cannot be an original one. I do not do any research for my work. To my understanding the novels based on research are lifeless and soulless. For me literature or any creative work, for that matter, is basically an excuse to open your bare soul to others. Allow them to enjoy its innocence, beauty and love. Research works simply means it is soulless.

Q6. What is your source of inspiration when you write?

Answer: Life, its beauty, its celebration. Nature; everything it has, right from wind, river, trees to stars. I believe, you must have felt it after reading ‘Paradise Lost & Regained’.

Q7. You have worked with two different Publishers. Tell us your journey with both the publishers?

Answer:  It was smooth and hassle-free.

Q8. Tell us some interesting facts at the time of writing both your books?

Answer: The first novel was partly autobiographical and hence the entire writing went on effortlessly. But a strange event took place while I was working on ‘Paradise Lost & Regained’. I had never imagined that the story of a little deer would be anything more than 25 thousand words. But I had an uncanny feeling throughout the writing period that someone was holding my pen and adding more events to the novel that I had not imagined before. Eventually, it became an 85 thousand words novel.

Q9. How important is the characterization of the book?

Answer: It is very important or else your writing loses authenticity. Your characters must not be inconsistent if you are not deliberating making it like that. And that’s why visualizing the entire work before starting to write is very important.

Q10. What marketing Strategies you are doing for promoting your book?

Answer: Nothing as such. Let’s see where my career as an author ultimately reaches.

Q11. How important is to get your book reviewed? Did it help you in promotion?

Answer: I sent the book to many reviewers. But honestly speaking, I really do not know if it really helps when it comes to reaching more readers is concerned. In fact, I often feel, nowadays quantity of authors is more than that of readers.

Q12. What you do when you are not writing?

Answer: I have a varied interest. I read lots of books (chiefly non-fiction), learn new magic tricks, watch nature for long hours, and spend time with my little son and loving wife.

Q13. What hard work one has to do to make it a good story?

Answer: Please don’t think that you can write a masterpiece after reading a few shallow chick lit. First of all, learn the language well, read the works which have earned immortality. They are one hundred times better than the books those dominate the present best seller list. Spend long hours with yourself. Ask your being if you have an original story to say. If you get then answer ‘yes’ only then you write, or else, give yourself time until a unique idea surfaces itself to your mind. Having said that I do not claim that your good story will bring you immediate success. No one can predict that.

Q14. What are your future Projects? What Genre will you choose for the next book?

Answer:  After reading ‘paradise Lost & Regained’ probably you know I am deeply interested in life and its mystery. My next work will again be on the mystical dimension of life. No stale story… it will be unique and totally original.

Q15. You have written two books and both are of different genre. Which book is close to your heart?

Answer: I think, you know the answer; It has to be ‘Paradise Lost & Regained’. In fact I often feel that the little deer of the novel is my self-projection. Probably, it is self-projection of all of us who listen to their being.

Q16. Did you face any difficulties in writing your Second book? Tell us...

Answer: Not at all, rather I felt someone guiding me to sail from one event to another effortlessly. It is an inexplicable feeling. Probably it happens only when you want to write a book that you totally believe in.

Q17. How does it feels to be a Published writer?

Answer: I am a loner and deeply enjoy my own presence. I am not very active on social media either. So it does not matter much if I am a published author. Only thing that really matters is compliments on my work from unknown people.

Q18. How do you select a title for your book?

Answer: I just hit upon it.

Q19. Describe your style of writing?

Answer: I pour my soul out on the paper, no hypocrisy, no shallow business.

Q20. What message would you like to tell to readers and debut writers?

Answer: Read good works before you start writing. Real literature starts where chick lit ceases to exist. And be with me… I will never produce predictable work.

Chit Chat With Dr Ajay Yadav...

7/10/2015

Picture

Reviewstation, recently took an interview of Dr Ajay who written his Debut book “From Where I see”. It is one of the debatable book which can change the perspective of the society.  Let us know more about him…

Q1. Tell us something About yourself?

By profession I am an anesthetist, Intensivist and pain specialist  working as senior consultant and head of department at the W – hospital by Pratiksha, Gurgaon, the largest women's hospital in India. I am also teaching at Institute of advanced medical studies, a premier MD/MS entrance coaching institute where three times I have been awarded as best teaching faculty. As a person I am critical and analytical thinking.

Q2. When did you start writing?

For literature, this is my first book which I started 3 years back, but the textbook of anesthesia I wrote in 2003 and now it is one of the most saleable textbooks for undergraduates in India, South East Asia, Middle East, China and Africa.

Q3. What motivated you to write such a controversial book?

Since my childhood I had been an analytical thinker. I observed that there are always two sides of the curtain; our fears, prejudices, fixed notions and attitude of accepting what’s served as platter does not let us peep on that side often letting the winners to manipulate the historical facts. Injustice, human exploitation, dishonesty and lawlessness had never been tolerable to me. Nothing has grieved me more than hatred towards each other. Why at every level, whether it’s intrapersonal, interpersonal, inter-social, inter-religious or inter-country we are conflicted? I started to think; finding the cause for these conflicts became my passion. I started to dream of a society free of these conflicts, an honest utopian society.

Himani jee, there are 2 types of people in this world. First, who are sensitive to their own needs and own desires; their life revolves around ‘me’ only.  Second, who are sensitive to the needs of others; their concern is ‘we’, we as a society, as a country, as a world and most importantly as humans. Unfortunately! I belong to the second category. This sensitivity, desire to show the other side of the curtain and desire to change the world to establish a utopian society were the motivating factors for me to take such a bold decision. There is no weapon stronger than a pen in brining revolution, so I decided to pen down.

Q4. Tell us something about your book?

I just won’t call it as a book alone, it’s a revolution. It’s a journey towards an ideal world where we all dream to live in. It is my sincsre effort to find out the root causes and probable remedies of intrapersonal, interpersonal, inter-social, inter-religious or inter-country conflicts. It is an exploration of hundreds of most controversial yet peritent questions. And this all I have tried to achieve  through a story background of murder mystery. Although it was very difficult task but after seeing the reviews of the majoirity of readers, I feel that I have succeded.

Q5. You are a Doctor by Profession. How did you manage your time by writing this book?

There is no doubt that time is a big constraint to me, but “where there is a will, there is a way”. In fact, my desire to establish a utopian society coerces me to find time for my passion. Moreover, I don’t  watch saas bahu serials!!!

Q6. What were in your mind while writing this book?

The only thing which was there in mind and still it's there is that somebody has to take the plunge.

Q7. How do you feel to be a published Author?

It definitely gives a proud feeling. At least now I have a platform to spread my message.

Q8. How do you envision your book. Will it create an impact on the readers. Will it change the perspective of the society?

Of course Himani jee, it will. Rather, I would say that it has already been started. The evidence is the reviews from the readers. I am so glad to see that few readers have so openly accepted that they were stubborn and now there persuaded toward many things have changed.

Q9. How is Lifi Publication?

Largely they have been supportive. They made my book available in most of the countries. I was surpised to see that it's available at Amazon. UK and Amazon. US. I feel that they also have positive expectations from my book.

Q10. Tell us some of your interesting memories associated with the book?

Honestly speaking  Himani jee, for a debutante author the majority of memories are painful!! You have to really stuggle hard to get your book published.

Q11. What marketing strategies you are doing in promoting the book?

I have started Face book , twitter and  goodreads campaign. Recently I organized a giveaway campaign at goodreads. I organized my book launch at constitution club Delhi and press conference in Gurgaon. Majority of the newspapers gave an excellent coverage of the events. The article in Hindu and millennium post are really mindblowing.

Q12. Besides writing and your profession what you like to do during free time?

Reading Literature, watching plays and movies, travelling and long distance running are my hobbies.

Q13. Woman Empowerment, Inter religious marriage, Live in relation all these issues were discussed in your book. Do you thing People’s perspective towards these issues will be changed in the coming year?

Women Empowerment without any second thought has seen an immense rise in the last millennium. We had seen women as best priministers, chief ministers, CEO of multinationals. In international sports women had bought more medals than men.

Unfortunately, inter religious marriages are still not very well accepted in our society and we can’t alone blame people for it. In my book I have tried my best to explain the cause of our restricted attitude toward accepting the people of other religion.

People perspective about other things like live in relation, same sex marriages, prostitution is changing, but yes very slowly and with lots of resistance.

Q14. Tell us your future project?

Right now I am writing a medical book. After finishing this work I will focus on literature book, but this time a much lighter one!!!

Q15.  What is your point of view on Husband and wife’s relation as a whole as this is also discussed in your book?

In single line I would like to say is that best relation between a husband and wife is “best friends with equal distribution of everything… and everything I mean everything”

Q16.  What message would you like to say to readers of your book?

When you are writing a book, you think that you are doing the most difficult job, but after finishing the book you realize that it was the easiest job- the real struggle begins from here. Finding a publisher in a current day scenario where hundreds of thousand budding authors are in queue is the most frustrating job. I am sorry to say, but the hard fact of the publishing industry is that the majority of the publishing houses are not interested in content or value your book is going to add to the society, only the marketability works. Moreover a new author is a vulnerable scapegoat for financial exploitation at multiple levels.

So, I would just like to say the aspiring authors that writing, getting it published and selling the book is a very challenging, time consuming, tedious and at times a frustrating job.  But… yes if your content is good, has something to give to this world… for sure it will find its way; people will accept it… albeit very slowly.

Author can be contacted my email- dryadavajay@rediffmail.com

Thanks Dr Ajay for your valuable time. It was nice talking to you….

Thanks Himani for giving me this opportunity.

Firstly, with basic question:

Q1. Tell us something about yourself?

I have been working as a journalist for the past 18 years. I have worked with The Times of India, The Indian Express and a couple of other newspapers before shifting to broadcast journalism. At present, I am working with Dainik Bhaskar. I belong to Shimla.

Q2. When did you start Writing?

Well, as an amateur pretty early. I think when I was 18 or so. But I thought of writing fiction in 2003. I tried and failed and then postponed it. Finally, I embarked on it in 2008 and took about six years to write my debut novel since I also had a full time job.

Q3. Tell us something about your book?

Simply speaking, it is a simple story of a woman out to find her mother, who abandoned her for money. At a broad level, it is a story of people, who do not have their moorings and identity. So ultimately, the protagonist called Sita Morrison, while in search of her mother, takes up the cause of people who are like her, who have a crisis of identity. Along with them, Sita starts a movement to set up the first ever non-territorial nation called Scattered Citizens of the Freeworld or the Scot Free World, where the moorings and ethnicity do not matter as much as the merit of the individual.

Q4. How does it feel to be a Published Author?

I am satisfied that the book is out and doing well. Initially, I felt apprehensive thinking that people are going to judge it or what if no one turns up at the launch. It is like throwing a birthday bash and no one comes. But, whoever I have spoken to, in fact, I never sought any reviews, instead people themselves started giving feedback saying that they liked my work. My first book launch was on June 12th at Chandigarh. I got a first call within 48 hours from a reader who said she had finished it and liked it very much. I think, if someone winds it up in 48 hours it means it is a smooth hassle-free read. Now that really is a good sign.

Q5. First of all you are an editor at a newspaper and now a writer. Tell us which one is better, according to you?

Both jobs require separate sets of talent. Newspapers deal with news, facts, analysis and writing it in a particular style. Writing fiction is a difficult graduation, particularly if you are a reporter. You have to ensure that common thread throughout the novel, make sense of the entire work, give shape to your characters, pace the novel well enough, ensure it doesn’t move too fast and also ensure it does have imagery, but not to the point where it gets boring and then be ready to face all kinds of off-hand questions -- intelligent as well as stupid  -- as to how things could have been done differently, etc.

Q6. How was it working with Petals Publisher?

Working with Harpreet has been good. He is ambitious and really backs you up with his set of plans. He was kind enough to adjust to some of my idiosyncratic demands. I wish him all the success in his future endeavors.

Q7. Tell us some of your memories associated with this book?

I do not have real fond memories. I was only worried that it should see the light of the day, especially, for someone making a debut there is a possibility that you may abandon it half way through. So I just wanted to write it as early as possible. That anxiety I think was one big reason why I did not really enjoy writing it. I constantly had the destination in mind. In fact, some of my friends later on apprised me of paragraphs, sentences, narration, which they felt were the soul of the novel.

Q8. How do you envision your book and what impact will it create among readers?

I am sure it is not a run-of-the-mill stuff. It is unsual. It is a philosophical thriller, very linear and I have deliberately cut out the imagery to ensure it does not lose pace. I have just got one negative feedback out of close to a hundred readers.

Q9. What marketing strategy you are using to promote your book?

Well, I have already done two launches in Chandigarh and Shimla. I plan a couple more after a break. But I think books have a long and very different shelf life. One never knows, when it starts to create a buzz. It could even be five years after the launch. So even though, marketing is important but I believe a real book gets what it deserves.

Q10. What is the source of your inspiration?

My source of inspiration has to be the instinct to write better than yesterday. Anybody who is creative, would like to keep growing.

Q11. What is your favorite genre in writing?

I have always been in awe of good writing. So I do not subscribe to a genre of writing. But I suppose writing magical realism is challenging.

Q12. Any future projects?

Yeah. I will not like to disclose it right away.

Q13. How do you tackle negative reviews for the book?

Negative reviews can be helpful. It offers you enough to learn. But it is up to the author to selectively learn from the reviews. And also to let some of it come your way and not pay attention to. If I get a feeling, a particular review is not a review, but just a job done, then I will give it only that much importance.

Q14. How did you get the idea for the book. Did you do any research for the book?

The idea never came up at once. As I wrote, the idea kept graduating and fine tuning in my mind. I started the novel in 2008. The idea got a good final shape by about 2013. That is when I felt that this is what would be good enough. As far as research is concerned, yes small bits of research was carried out.

Q15. What Do’s and Don’t’s a writer should consider while writing a book?

The do’s are that you have to maintain continuity. It is a marathon work. The deadlines can be very impractical. And just strictly sticking to the deadline could mean invitation to howlers and major embarrassments in your work. So be true to yourself and invite as much criticism before the book is out. Well, I haven’t looked at the don’ts.

Q16. When you are not writing what you like to do in your free time?

Watching Youtube, reading, watching television. Of late swimming as well.

Q17. Do you think writing is the best profession in this world?

No, in that sense I am quite secular. It is a choice one wants to make and that choice should be left to the person and what one loves to do.

Q18. Describe your writing style?

In my case writing style would mostly be over-shadowed by the storytelling and the intrinsic philosophy that goes along.

Q19. What is your biggest strength while writing?

I use narrative style but not very descriptive and expository. In my debut work, I have tried to use shorter sentences where the novel has to move forward quickly. Since it has certain amount of thrill. Wherever, there is philosophy, I have tried to slow down to be more static. Again one may not find too much imagery because then there would have been a danger of sailing in three boats.

Q20. What message you would like to convey to our readers and fellow writers?

Read it and enjoy. I said at the very outset it is a bizarre and unusual work. Thefeedback which I later got was that yes I was true in saying it was bizarre and unusual and last word I left to the readers. And they have said it is wonderful as well.

Interview With Abhirup Dhar

6/26/2015

Picture
Reviewstation loves to take interviews of Debut Authors. And this time again, I am proud to have a conversation with a debut author who also reviews movies… Let’s know about him in detail…

Q1. Let’s start with a basic question. Tell us something about yourself?

Moody, choosy, sarcastic, weird, different, unpredictable- guess I have summed myself up quite well here! On a more serious note, I'm Abhirup and I have been quite lost ever since birth. And ever since then, I have been trying to find myself. I seem to come close to my search with each passing day. These days, I introduce myself as a banker by profession and a writer by choice.

Q2. When did you start writing?

I used to write ghost stories when I was in school! And I wrote imaginary scripts too! Wrote for the school magazine. Then, graduated to mouthshut.com while at college and further post-graduated to movie reviews for a website- spectralhues.com. So yes, I have always been writing. Talking about 'Once Again... With Love!', I penned the first draft of the manuscript during the four months I got between postgraduation and my first job a little over five years back. The idea now is to get better in both my profession and passion with each  day.

Q3. “Once Again with Love” is your debut Novel. Why did you choose this title and genre of your debut novel?

When I wrote 'Once Again... With Love!', I really had no intention to get it published. I had a few close friends whom I sent the manuscript. They said it is really cool and... the characters and narration struck a chord with them; suggested I should have it out. But I'm lazy! It took me some more pushing and now since OAWL is there for everyone, I'll answer to your question by saying a love rom-com story is the best way I could have debuted. The working title was 'Yeah! I love you a lot, but...' which is one of the lines in the book. However, I wanted something more appropriate and so I thought (which I don't do too often... kidding!) and 'Once Again... With Love!' seemed just perfect to me given the plot and idea I had.

Q4. I have read your book. It is simple, Why did you write a simple love story as a debut novel?

I believe the best stories are always about a man and a woman. Simplicity is beautiful and I wanted a beautiful book as a debut novel. Moreover, I wanted to target impatient, non-readers. Not a voracious reader myself, I understand their psyche. It had to be simple, breezy and crisp. To me, any book which makes a non-reader, read is success defined for it.

Q5. Tell us something about your book?

'Once Again... With Love!' is nothing cult or path-breaking and I didn't intend to write one for a debut. It is simply a simple story about three oddballs muddled by love, confusion and relationships. It is a simple story about the weird complications they go through while they come of age. The characters are people you can relate to and I have infused a lot of humour (though still restrained) to make it a fun read.

Q6. Since you are a reviewer yourself and Review movies. How does it feel when your own book was reviewed and you got ratings?

Good question! Since I review movies myself, I'm of the opinion that the best reviews are always ones which are blunt and unbiased. If you have read some of mine, you will know how I praise movies I like and pan movies I don't.  Some mistake it as rudeness. It's not. Opinions vary. Everyone is a critic. Some get to write it. Some get to speak it. Some don't. I have welcomed both positive and negative criticism, but thankfully for me so far, the reviews have ranged from average to excellent which is good for a start.

Q7. Tell us your experience with Your publisher?

The irritating perfectionist that I can be when it comes to anything I get close to, it was important for me to have a publisher who bears all my tantrums! I wanted the mood of the book to be portrayed in the best possible manner and my publisher has worked in tandem with me in each phase- the manuscript, the cover, the trailer, the posters and most importantly, the idea! My friend, Manpreet has been with me visualizing what we were to portray through the cover, trailer and even the FB Page which she monitors. It has been a fantastic teamwork and a learning process.

Q8. Are you planning to write another book. Which genre will you choose for your next book?

Absolutely! What motivates me further is the initial response to my book. However, I'm not a full-fledged writer and I know how demanding the schedule has been to explore my passion along with work. I plan to write a book every two years as of now. Talking about the genre, I have been suggested by many to stick to love stories and probably, write something intense this time. While I'm brimming with ideas and I have to take time out to put them on paper (read MS-Word!), I haven't really decided about my next book yet. But I may like to experiment with various genres- horror being my favourite.

Q9. Apart from writing. Do you read books. What are your hobbies?

I'm a writer; not a reader! So, I write in my spare time when I get it. I have read books- ranging from classics to modern fiction but not too many and I'm being honest. Without trying to sound intellectual, let me just say that I look up to Chetan Bhagat for bringing about a change in reading habits and reaching out to so many readers and non-readers.

My Hobbies include writing, watching movies and traveling. I'm also a foodie.

Q10. What marketing strategies you are doing to promote your book?

As it is my first book and I'm a debut writer, I very well knew that a good and smart marketing strategy would be required to reach out to people. I also needed someone who understands the mood of the book well. I also knew that the online market is a huge one and if smartly planned, it can be wonderful. My friend, Manpreet who is into online marketing and incidentally also the first person to read the first draft of my manuscript volunteered and I couldn't ask for more. She also monitors the FB Page which has been garnering a decent number of organic likes. We will also keep a (in)formal book launch in the last week of July. Visibility is of utmost importance.

Q11. How does it feel to be a writer?

It feels great! Ever since OAWL has been out, congratulations have poured in from friends and close people; messages have been dropped through my website. It is a very positive book and positivity seems to attract positivity. Friends who have read it mostly loved it and I'm told they could not stop reading without completing it. Some may be biased! But critics also like it. I'm humbled with so much love for a book about love.

Q12. Tell us some of your memories while writing this book?

Like I said earlier, I penned the first draft of the manuscript during the four months I got between postgraduation and my first job a little over five years back. I recall it was a lazy afternoon when I looked into the mirror and muttered to myself- “Damn! How will I even manage a routine job? Let me write something.” And that's how OAWL happened. It took me over a fortnight and a half to complete the first draft. So engrossed had I got into writing the book that I actually lived the characters during the time. I still am! I remember parents thought I was either depressed or sick. I didn't shave all those days, stayed at home, watched tv in the afternoon and hardly spoke to friends over the phone too. I simply wanted to get the characters, sequences, humor and feel right.

Q13. It is a Love story. Tell us your point of view on Love? Do you have a girlfriend?

To me... Love is all about friendship, chemistry and compatibility. You know it's Love when you probably start off quarelling with him/her (the 'him' for girls... I'm not gay!) and then realize you are now friends. And then, you further realize you tend to miss him/her when not around. You like talking to him/her and you like it when you two are together. It's as simple as that. We people ourselves make relationships complicated.

Yes; I do have a girlfriend. We intend to tie the knot later this year.

Q14. Lastly, What would you like to convey to our readers and writers?

Grab a copy, have a fun two-hours read, laugh a bit, fall in love with Love all over again and... spread the word!
