Reviewstation proudly took his Interview to know more about his Publication "Author Empire"
From many new companies and names that entered the Publishing Industry in recent years, Author’s Empire™ has created a unique position for itself. The firm is active in various activities in the literary field. Please tell us more about Author’s Empire.
Thanks, Himani. Of course, Author’s Empire has created a position for itself in the Industry, and we are proud to have worked for and with more than a hundred authors in last two years.
Author’s Empire is a brand that is active in book marketing and promotions (Legendary Book Marketing & Promotions), distribution, editorial services, traditional publishing (Author’s Empire Publications Pvt. Ltd.) and also self-publishing (Empress). Our paid publishing service is unique, which is perhaps the only paid publishing service that is no less than traditional publishing.
Please tell our readers more about the paid publishing, as many authors are opting for paid/self publishing these days.
Yes, many writers prefer self-publishing these days. Gone are the days when self-publishing was considered only for those who could not find traditional publishers. Today, not many writers prefer to wait for one to two years to get their books published, which is a common scenario for traditional publishing. Thus, self-publishing is in demand these days. It is simple, pay and get published.
Many authors and experts in Industry suggest that Author’s Empire’s self publishing service is exceptional, and it’s a fact that even after being a new company, you get numerous self publishing projects every month. What makes AE’s self-publishing exceptional?
Yes, our paid publication (a term we use for our self publishing) is unique. Unlike many other self publishers, Author’s Empire does not believe in printing a few digital copies of the book, increasing the MRP and making the book available only online. Rather, we publish a good number of copies, keep the MRP as low as possible and make sure that the books are distributed to many stores and sold in good number.
How important is it for a book to reach in bookstores?
IT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF PUBLISHING! It is tough for a book to do well unless and until it is in bookstores. Good numbers of books are sold online, but for a debut author (and authors not as famous as Bhagat, Amish, Tuhin Sinha or Durjoy Dutta) it is not easy to sell thousands of copies. The more the books are available in stores, the more are the chances of sale.
Why is it so tough for a new publisher to find reputed distributors and send books to bookstores? Moreover, Author’s Empire has a long list of distributors, including names like Prakash Books and Jaico. How did you manage to get these distributors?
Yes, you are right. Opening a publishing house is the easiest task, but getting distributors and sending your books to bookstores is the toughest. The reason is competition. Today, there are hundreds of publishers in fiction who publish thousands of titles every month. And on the other hand, the number of bookstores did not increase with the same speed. The fact that ‘everyone is turning into an author’ is one of the biggest reasons for this. There are so many titles releasing every month that shopkeepers have to select only those authors whose books are sold well or the publishers who give them a list of bestselling authors.
It took me two years to get some of the top distributors for our books. It wasn’t easy. However, our rich-quality books were accepted by many distributors.
What is the message you wish to give to the young Indian authors?
The only message I would like to give them is to understand the market. If you wish to be a successful author, you will have to understand the marketing strategies, the distribution channel, and the importance of title, cover and quality. Many authors think that getting the books published means their books will be available in all the bookstores, which is not at all true. A book written by a debut or not-so-famous author hardly reaches to five to ten percent of the bookstores, even if the topmost publishers publish it. Once the book and author gains a good name, by marketing or reviews, the distribution strengthens. The authors should understand these aspects, try to give fresh stories, and work on their marketing strategies.
