Publisher: Author House
Verdict: ☆☆☆ ½ beautiful collection of poems which will touch your heart. There are 6 poems divided in parts which clearly indicates about city life and it’s emptiness…I found it worth reading.
About The Author: Vihang A. Naik throws light on the life of a city in all its shades, glory and misery in his City Times and Other Poems. It is an anthology of his intuitive and philosophical poems. The Poems are divided in 6 segments. e. 'Love Song of a Journey Man' is more or less an inner travelogue, The segments, for instance, 'Mirrored Man' is about the other chimeras in the city .The people in the city are capricious like the walk of a crab or the colors of a chameleon. While, The Path of Wisdom' is about the beginning of meditation and knowledge. 'At the Shore' records the poet's sense of futility, memory, pain, exile and alienation at the shore of life. The title of this collection is also the heading for the last of its six sections, in which the city is unfolding as a market place, as a haven for underdogs, and as a seedbed of change and is observed at evening, at midnight, by moonlight and through fog and haze.

"The poem titled 'Self Portrait' starts with the diagrammatic sketch with seven blank pages where the reader finds only three words at the tail end of the page. Here the poet envisions in an epiphanic moment, the true nature of ones self when he wakes up, 'to see my / Self' 'discovered beyond thought.' Between 'my self' and 'discovered beyond thought' are five blank pages. The ineffable epiphany of ambiguous. It may either suggest the discovery of a transcendental Self beyond all thought and language or it may suggest the discovery of an Absence beyond the human thought and speech." -POET (India ) "The poet has something up his sleeve to say beyond the appearances. He does not describe what things are, but what they are stirring to be, in his consciousness. Vihang Naik has proven his credentials through The City Times and Other Poems, and is a poet with a future." -Indian Book Chronicle "All his poems are marked by precision and intensity and, of course, typographical experimentation. As a 'First Book of Verse' the volume is remarkable for its creative maturity, and tight control of verse form." -JELF Contour, India "The poet appears to be quite sincere in his own un self-conscious way" -The Scoria-the Magazine for the Connoisseur
Review: The cover is nice and have Author Image. Each poem defines about City life. I loved the collection and Subtitles use in the poems… The poems are a wonderful form of literature. There was so much depth in each poem. The poet takes us to the city life in general. The emptiness, The ignored aspect of Citylife. The readers are very much connected to each and every poem.
1. The first section “love Song of a journeyman” Its emphasis our inner self. The things going around within ourselves. It can be seen in poems like ‘You revealed the edge, World, Time expresses the feeling of a man who is always on a journey.
2. Second section, i.e. ‘mirrored mam’ indicates about the nature of man in general. How they change color just like a Chameleon. How cunning person is.
3. Third section, ‘The path of wisdom’ indicates about the practice of ‘meditation and knowledge. The poem tries to convey the message of humanity.
4. Fourth Section, i.e. ‘Self Portrait’ indicates how a man conceives of himself
5. Fifth Section is ‘At the Shore’ express poet’s pain, exile.
6. Sixth Section or Last section is about City times. It is an expression of an Individual.
It is an exceptional work of the poet. Keep it up!! One poem I would love to share with my readers:
“Mirrored Man”
Chameleon is not that great.
He changes colours, chairs,
words, moves sooner than
you think to merge
with the surrounding.
His facts behind eyes
eclipsed and his image
in heights increased. Even
crocodiles and vultures
in the mist are taken
real in the least.
Who knows what
is deceit?
