About the Book: Daughter of a Drunkard Monk" is Saumya Kaushik’s debut novel, being a hard-core feminist the writer has penned down the adversities faced by women in a male patriarchal society The book picks out those issues which prevail in the society and are forgotten down in the papers and news. "DODM" is the story of the protagonist which can be any ordinary girl in similar situation. What, however, appears extraordinary is the grit and courage and confidence with which the protagonist faces all verities of adversities, many of which are simply reflections of her 'gender' and the societal/ patriarchal attitude towards girls in 'such/ similar' situations.
Review: The cover of the book is simple and pleasing which completely suits the Title. The blurb perfectly indicates that book revolves around the main Protagonist Naina and her life which reveals through her Diary. I enjoyed reading the book till the end. It was completely a mixture of emotions and teach us to lead the life strongly inspite of facing so much troubles and fulfill the dreams. The narration of the book was beautifully done which will hook you to the book till the end. I like the way Naina fought with the world strongly. The Rape incident was really painful. Since it is a debut novel of the Author she wrote it in a simple language with a beautiful story concept. The way she told her life story to her husband in the form of diary left me speechless. Her Drunkard dad, Her miserable love life, death of a boyfriend really created an emotional impact on the readers and one will surely cry after reading the story. I loved the way Naina strongly tackled every situation. After reading the book, I would surely believe that no matter what situation you come across in your life, one needs to tackle it strongly. In the end the verses from holy book “Gita” Really created a strong impact on me as a reader. The end had put a smile on my face. A nice debut book by the Author. Short and simple. One can read this book while travelling or while having a coffee or tea since it is a small book of 168 pages. I would recommend readers who want to read a book in their free time can surely grab this copy. All the best Author J
