Publisher: Authors Press
Verdict: ☆☆☆☆ It is a collection of short stories about women dealing with some social issues. As a reader, I loved the content of the stories. Sometimes we get bored by reading love stories, This book will make you happy. A light hearted and simple book to read. The Author had beautifully incorporated the social issues which makes the book an interesting read.
About The Author: Neelam Saxena Chandra is an engineer by profession and works with Indian Railways. She has two novels, one novella, four poetry books, one short story collection and four children's story books to her credit, besides more than six hundred published stories/poems.
Neelam has been awarded for her works by Gulzarji in a Poetry Contest organized by American Society, by Children Book Trust in 2009, and by the Ministry of Railways (Premchand Puraskar). About the Book: A woman is like a palette of colors. Just like the colors, she too displays a different tint and shade at different points of time. The colors you perceive are the ones you make her show. If you love her, she will adore you; if you give her wings she will soar, but if you hurt her, she may take time but will one day bounce back in retaliation.
'Skylines' is a collection of fourteen different stories which revolve around women - the buoyant teens, the chirpy youth or the matured ladies. Different encounters and circumstances in life make them either very tender, fragile or reactionaries and bigots. Do read on to understand these colors of life...
Review: Women are your best friend, philosopher and guide. One should love and respect women. She is strong, caring and hard working, but if you hurt her she will destroy you. Skylines are a collection of 14 short stories written by Neelam Chandra mam indicating the strong aspect of women. The cover of the book was soothing and clearly indicates about the life of women. All the stories were beautifully written and one enjoys reading all the stories. But some of the stories were my favorite:
1. The three Men in Her Life: Reena’s character was beautifully explained by the Author and three men in her life were his father, brothers and Boyfriend and the way all three treated her make you cry in the end. I liked the ending of the story the way her absence taught his importance to his father was nicely written.
2. The Riverberations: It is about rape Victim and the way Saundarya was given justice was nicely written. The story was wonderfully narrated and I liked the ending. If you do something wrong the guilt will never let you sleep.
3. Horizons of Hope: Love marriage without parents' consent and its effect is what narrated in this story. I loved the way Aradhana had tackled the situation and finally got the love of her in-laws.
4. Time wounds highlight the ill practice of Dowry system and how difficult is for the women to face this stigma and stand alone. A very well written story..
However, there were some stories which lacked in emotions still this book is worth reading and everyone should read this book. I would recommend everyone who is interested to read short stories must read this book. All the best Neelam mam and keep writing....
